baxi solo 2 50 pf problem

i have a customer with a baxi solo 50 pf and the boiler cuts out randomly it was working all ok when i went there but there was a red light on the 'over heat' and red light on the 'boiler on' , has anyone heard of this problem ? any help would be much appreciated !

Probably overheated then!! If you get a single light on one of the others (can't remember which one) it means the black gas valve coil is faulty. If it is just overheat turns it down and back up again.

i was fitting a new basin at the property when the customer asked about it he said it cuts out every so often and he turns the dial down then back up again but hes getting fed up with having to keep doing it, there must be a reason why its overheating ? im going to give baxi technical help a call tomorrow see if they have any ideas , does anyone have any suggestions on here???

Check the pump and general circulation; the original solo 2 PF did have an issue with poor castings on the h/ex. It's doubtful it would have lasted this long but worth getting checked, Baxi might be able to shed some light if you give them the serial no. You'll have to let them know you are aware of the heat ex fault as they won't exactly own up to it on the phone easily....

Have a look at the flue on this they rot inside causing gasses to mix they even do a remedial kit for it

Something worth checking is that the pump is wired up correctly and is conected to the overrun ... Also check that the overrun is operating correctly 🙂

I'm sure when you turn it on and of again it's going to over heat. As above check circulation and that it's not kettling or noisy when it's hot. Ask the customer to run it on a lower boiler stat setting to see if it cuts out.

The problem is more likley the central heating system than the boiler. Basically the hot water is not getting out of the boiler fast enough so that when the flame goes off the residual heat in the boilers internal heat exchanger causes the water to become overheated and trip the safety device.

Has the pump speed been turned down?

Do you have radiators and /or towel rail that have manual valves on (not thermostatic) to accept a flow of water when other rooms with thermostatic valves on have warmed up? If so are they open?

Have you recently insulated some pipework that is meant to be uninsulated as part of a heat sink / by pass system.

Is there a lot of air in the system preventing proper circulation?

Is the system working properly otherwise? sludge in the system may prevent proper circulation.
