Is any of you are vetted with the Contractors Health and safety Scheme (CHAS) or similar organisations? What is your take on the scheme and is it worth the money?

never heard of chas just csr and that in northern ireland. i took my exam i think it lasts 5 years. the exams were simple and every time i have done site work have been asked for my card

I've only heard of CSCS which is the recognised construction scheme for Health and Safety and it's essential to have the card for site access in Scotland.

i live in northern ireland but when im not busy i work for sub contracter who works for a firm who does work in schools all around belfast and work all around the uk

Chas and construction line are needed if you want to do government contracts (council etc) or other big players It is an easily verifiable record that you (or your company) meet certain heath and safety management criteria so you don't have to go through the whole prequal and vetting process. Most times you won't even get an offer to tender without it.

Totally different to a cscs card which is just for the troops.

I am a sole trader and I do maintenance work for my local caravan site. The caravan site is run by the National Caravan Club. They require all contractors to vetted by CHAS. The question is, is it worth it?

I looked at it a few months ago and its alot of paperwork which put me off , as tamz has mentioned it does get you on certain lists to price for work and can get chance to price bigger works. I would say if you can be bothered with the paperwork then g for it

It only costs about £100 for 2 years but you need to have all your heath and safety stuff in order which may mean you need to use someone to do it for you unless you are pretty switched on with it which will cost a lot more.

It may be better to just have a word with the owner of the site if that is all it is for. There are ways around most things if you talk to the right people.
