Hi all,

I work as a subbie for a large energy provider as a service engineer. Now I have been given the heads up from one of our breakdown guys that there has been an issue at a property.

Basically, mini tightness complete - o.15 / 0.25mb drop (cant remeber exactly) but in tolerance for u gauge. I air on the side of caution and request customer calls break down for possible new GV. Customer calls ESP rather than our emergency line and says she has a 5mb drob, ESP shut down. One of our technicians went out and mesured 0.4mb drop roughly at the appliance p1. Im new so had no paper work. Breakdown guy says expect a moody phone call but I cant see ive done anything wrong apart from give the customer too much info and not completed paper work which I didnt have. Obviously any NCS, AR or ID i would use my own notices. Can you see any issues with this situation?
 
If you did t have any paperwork cos they've not issued it how can you be due a telling off for not completing any additional though for future work tell the customer the least amount possible , they will multiply ten fold as has happened here
 
Ps take any telling off roll withit and move on they will of forget ten about it y Wednesday
 
Hi Resolute. The ESP didnt measure a 5mb drop the customer told them that I had found a 5mb drop which I didnt it was between 0.15 and 0.25mb drop and the esp just shut down on the customers word. The customer mis interrupted my readings and went to the top.
 
Then the ESP is at fault. Did you ask the customer if they ever smelt gas? Seems well within permissible drop providing there's no smell.

The ESP should've carried out a TT too.

yeh, the customer had never smelt gas and the drop was neglagble - dont really want to say who Im contracting for directly but it ends in ON. When one of our technicians went back he measured a 0.4mb drop at the appliance. To be honest I know Iam a sound service guy but I admit that on occasions I am a bit to cautious and unfortunately everything has been read wrong and potentially I risk losing my job even though Ive done every last thing by the book. Im nervous to be fair, not from a GS reg point of view but from a big company , over the top point of view.
 
I reckon you'll be ok. Just be careful how and what you tell customers, it's easy to panic them and when they stew on it they jump to conclusions. Not your fault the ESP didn't carry out any testing.

0mb permissible drop when testing a gas valve isn't it? Your testing a safety device and it should close off completely and not let any gas pass.
 
u are ok mate ..... if there are tenants of a HA .....do not mention any gas leaks as they will see it as a opportunity too make claims .
If there is permisible leak just ask if they ever had smell gas if answer is NO , then put all info on cp12 and move on
if any one call you will be to do with bring it the gas leak to a conversation
forget about your fellow work mate , he is a ***** who is not really willing to be your work friend

Reckon you'll be fine though, as SGI says, Next time word it better to the customer and note it all down.
