Drain down question

I want to fit a magnetic filter to my heating system and wondered if i can shut off all the rads and just drain down the water in the piping.

Is this possible to do ?

The position of the boiler is at the bottom of the house.

what about the pipe freeze kits or sprays ? Anyone used these before. what are they like ?

Bung the system, drain off system pressure, fit filter, remove bungs, roberts your mothers brother

You really want to drain down and flush the system before you put a new filter in anyway.

i know, but on one system i drained down to rehang a rad, so it has 2 new inhibitors in it and i dont really want to drain down again.

anyone used the freeze kits before ?

i used the freeze kits you get in a can, it gives you around 10mins to cut.

The disposable freeze kits are useless. Most of the time you could shut off each radiator at both ends and drain down just what is in the pipework. Don't worry too much about airlocks - use the standard procedure for getting rid of them if they do occur.

Bunging the system rarely holds water in 22mm pipe or larger.
