Hi guys, I was hoping there's someone on here who can advise...

I am trying to replace the taps in my kitchen as the teeth have gone and they spin.

I know how to turn the cold water off at the stopcock but need to check I am doing the hot water bit right.

We have a copper cylinder upstairs. The hot water to the taps comes from the top of this right? There is no stop tap between the top of cylinder and the kitchen tap (that I can see). There is a tap up above the cylinder which may be for the cold water feed into it. If I was to turn this off would this work?

Would I need wait until the cylinder drains or because no water is able to enter at the bottom would no water be able to be pushed out of the top?

Thanks,
Very confused 😕

There should be a gate valve, probably with a red coloured wheel on the supply to the cylinder from the loft tank. Shut this off and no water will feed into the cylinder. Open hot taps and drain off what water is left in the pipes and away you go. Its the feed from the tank that gives the pressure to the hot.
Cheers
Jack

Hi. The valve on the cold feed to the cylinder (the pipe that comes from above and enters the cylinder near its base) is the valve that needs turning off. However do not over do the turning off as they are prone to sticking in the shut position. Once the valve has been turned off, turn on a hot tap and the flow will cease almost immediately. (the cylinder remains full) If you still get a drip or two from kitchen tap, it is often possibly to run the washing machine hose (lower connection than tap connectors) into a bucket whilst replacing taps. Good Luck
