mechanical cartridge Aqualisa shower leaks from the shower and not from the cartridge.

I have an Aqualisa mechanical cartridge shower that leaks from the shower and not from the cartridge. Past advice was to change the "O" washer at the back of the cartridge. But given that the leak comes from the shower head only does the same advice stand ("O" washer) ? Or do I need a new cartridge if it does not shut the flow of water firmly?
