hi guys, quick question,
what is the correct distance apart 2 pipes running horizontally should be? is it 30mm? ive just started the city & guilds 6129, just out of curiousity i was wondering when running pipes horizontally would they have to be 30mm apart? its really doing my head in because if that is the correct way then doing a semi passover (crossover) is impossible. Reason im asking this is because someone told me that the plastic clips which the pipes push into on the wall should be close together to make for a much neater job, but wot if you needed to cross one pipe over the other.
Can someone please help me out here.

cheers

why is a crossover impossible with a wide space between? you just adjust the pipe in your benders to take account of the gap

neatness is king, they are asking you more stupid questions in your book,in the real world its clips side by side bearing in mind if gas is involved its a inch from other services, unless its needed crossovers look stupid anyway a better way is a tee,m+f and a 45 kick if say you have a f+r and you need to pass one another

I am on the same course in a college in my area, as the guys said above in the real world you never would be that specific as you would put the pipes where you could fit them within reason and add lagging when needed, normally on the 6129 its 100mm between pipes going by all the job specs on the course, what made you come up with 30mm just out of curiosity?

And for the clip spacings, yeah they are right, you just put them in places to make the job look neater but obviously you would not place them anywhere restricting for example putting a clip on the hot water pipe exactly where you need to do a passover.

Haha 100mm is way too much but thats what they ask of you in these college courses, well on the assessments as they give you job specs to work from.
