could i have the following clarified please. The use of plume kits is clearly an advantage with condensing boilers and is widly used. when working with my mentor the other day i was wondering if the plume kit itself allows you to deviate from the flue regulations. to explain,- if the flue assembly comes out of an external wall, but is within 300mm of a window, but the plume kit termination it taken away to a distance more than that, does it then comply. (even though the air intake would be withing 300mm. ) i assume it would since the concern of the distances refer to flue products re entering the property?

Well the plumage kits are designed to reposition the plumage exhaust for various reasons and that is it,it is not designed to get around any flue termination regulation and it is not acceptable to do so,unless of course the manufacturer says otherwise

If your mentor positioned flue as per mi,then all ok,if he was trying to bend the general regulations to suit the installation,he is wrong and the flue should be repositioned

The plumage kit is a optional extra to the flue supplied for the boiler, bit like spoilers on a car,as the car construction has to be safe with or without the spoiler,so to must the flue be safe with or without the plumage kit

With regards your statement 'only air inlet near opening',you are thinking of products entering the opening, what if the opening,ie window is open to get rid of combustion products from a cooker,is it possible that the flue, if positioned to close to the opening will be drawing in those products into the flue inlet affecting combustion of flued appliance

imho

Another thought is that if the flue inlet is drawing through a window that less than 300mm it ends up not being room sealed

Agree with Puddle. Flue terminal, position does not change by fitting a plume kit. The plume kits pupose is only to avert a nuisance from a correctly sited flue terminal.

as usual the replys are clear and makes sense. i manage to learn loads on top of my college work on this forum. thanks for all the support.

Hi GA
We did mention mi over riding basic regs, however still think worcester have not thought it through in this instance, like to know how they came up with 150mm

However

We are referring to the use of plumage kits in an attempt to get round basic regs
