Hello out there,

I would like the opinion of the forum users please, the above images are that of the front of my mother in laws house, it is a council property. On August of this year the ceiling of her living room was almost completely destroyed by water damage, it also ruined her wallpaper, furnishings and carpet. The cause of the water damage stemmed from paving work that the council carried out in front of her home which led to damage which led to the front drain being blocked, this in turn led to the downpipe backing up to the point where the water backed up straight into the flue and in turn straight through the ceiling of her living room. Up until now all that has been done is that they have moved the base of the drainpipe to stop the water backing up and the gas guy said he replaced a valve.

Im no professional but i'm kinda aggrieved that the women is sitting with her living room is in ruin because of this, fair enough the council have replaced the ceiling but could this have been avoidied or is it a simple case of bad luck.

Any comment or advice would be deeply appreciated.

p.s I am not allowed to show images as the site wont allow my URLs, can someone help please?

Thanks.
JL.

I have emailed the images to the Mods, I really want to know if this incident could have been avoidable or is it one of those things, just trying to get to the bottom of it hence me asking you fine people.
