Hi guys

ive always been cards in but lately Im getting an itch to go subbing, I've had alook around and the big companies around my way are looking for subbies.

I currently earn £25000 a year and carnt see this going much higher, there's blokes I work with who earn the same and they've been in the trade 20-30 years.

The Subbie rates are good

£200 for a boiler change

just don't know if leaving a cards in job to go subbing is a good idea. IM married with two kids so the security is a big thing for me. Any advice would be great

Don't forget all the stuff u have to pay for as a subie pl van etc and those figures normally including supplying consumables as well so 200 ain't good after all that's been worked out

I have never done subbing and never will. But I think it is a ''secure'' source of income if you are prepared to be ''pushed'' around (missing parts, wrong type boiler, etc). It might come as a schock to your system as you leave from being your own boss to being told what to do.
You should take up the offer if you believe there is a long term guarantee of work.
Last thing you want is to be given only one boiler swap per week say after SIX months. GOOD LUCK

all the companies I've worked for supply subbies with all materials, I've got my own van so that's not an issue. Not sure how much public liability costs ?

Subbed for years but find now boiler swap rates are worst for years so don't bother chasing that so much now.
Just get on a commercial site on good hourly rate and just scratch your urse all day like you do on the cards.

Have a look at other firms in the area and see if they can match what you Wana do,Subbie is ok for a period of time but when it dries up there drop ya.if you are going to leave PAYE set up on your own and get your name built up.Real risk ESP with your family ,

And no paid holidays / sick pay, grass isn't always greener on the other side, think what the start up costs are, Van/insurance/ GS registration , the list go's on, not counting time spent on paperwork, Now 5pm go home forget about it, someone's else's problem finding work for tomorrow

No-one should be supplying consumables for a company in my opinion. Labour only. Why on earth should you provide screws to hang someone s boiler?
