Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and 25 ATM, I currently live in Wales near Swansea, I'm strongly considering taking plumbing up this year at Neath college and was wondering about people's views on this. I have looked into companies like Trades Gateway and Access Training but they want about £5-£6K. Now my ideas are to be ACS gas registered and Safe, once I've started to make some cash then I can move on to renewable energy and other skills. If there are any experienced Plumbers,(In Wales hopefully), that can offer some advice or info or even some known establishments that can help, not apprenticeship?

Thanks 😀

Ben

welcome to the UKPF. I'm sure you will do well in the plumbing field.
SO YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO AN APPRENTICESHIP? Yes???

I'm currently employed with Virgin and the career change wouldn't be beneficial as apprenticeships aren't good for covering bills etc. Thanks for the welcome 🙂

It wouldn't be something I'd be interested in as financially Apprenticeships aren't viable for someone already working. It would of been better suited for someone at a younger age.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Quite a few gas men have gone in this way but if you do i would strongly recommend some kind of plumbing coarse. to get to grips with the myriad of systems and pipework out there. Welcome though and enjoy..

Hi Benson and welcome to the forum.

There are similar posts to yours every day, and one almost identical to yours about once a week. A quick blast with the search function will uncover enough reading matter to keep you going until Xmas.

One thing though - there are also posts most days from people who have undergone some kind of training and are prepared to work for nothing to get experience. If you have bills that have to be paid, you might want to bear that in mind.

Hmm, i think you're underestimating the undertaking....

whats your role at virgin?

if you're planning to go self employed even if you become competent quickly *grins* you'll Break even the first year

selling renewables is a hard task, not having a wealth of experience.... It will be very costly to start

I will move into renewables in three or four years time and i might add with baby steps.

I'll be turning 22 on tuesday and i have nearly four years of experience.

Good experience i might add!
i might add i'm ambitious and far from a fool.

take a real look into what you're suggesting and don't believe the training centres carp of earning 60k in three months and having the rest of the year on a tropical beach....

Me and my dad are getting just over 60K per year company income and we are now about to enter year 3 🙂
I take £700 pm out for a wage... not a fortune
Welcome aboard though mate 🙂

£700pm. That's so unfair. You let your dad do most of the work, then just earn an easy wage!!! Now I realy need a strong drink:lol:
