Hi guys,

started up on my own about 8 months ago. Hardest thing I find Is pricing up jobs and charging customers. Just want to see what you guys charge for the following if thats ok. Im in cheshire, not far from warrington/liverpool

toilet install
basin install
bath install
full bathroom suite install (like for like) + swap rad for towel rad (same place) (what about first fixing all this then returning at a later date to final fix due to tiler)
power shower swap
full power shower install (electrician to do electrics)
replace seal on leaky tap
replace shower cubicle with bath (pipes and waste in almost correct position)

just looking for an idea guys as i feel im ripping myself off but dont waqnt to go too expensive and loose the jobs

your help is much appreciated

1. What salary/wage do you want?
2. Divide by 248 for daily rate.
3. Little more than half this for half day rate
4a. How many small jobs can you do in a day including travel?
4b. Call out rate = day rate divided by number odd small jobs.

Sorry not to give actual pounds and pence figures but these vary so much in any case. For example a bathroom swap/change can be anything from 1 day to three weeks and repairing a wc can take from 15 minutes to 5-6 hours.

Either have yourself, partner, wife, friend etc. phone round a few local businesses acting as a customer and find out. Then you'll get prices that are relevant to your local area.

Enough.

Each job on it's merits and to keep the missus in the custom she has become accustomed to.

My father got in early on this one. He told my wife when we married that I was to be kept in the way in which I had become accustomed. So far, it's worked, but I must admit standards have slipped in the last year or so as I've been working far too hard.

Don't sell yourself short Beesley121. Let the £8 an hour guys fight amongst themselves. In my opinion the customers who penny pinch end up paying twice. Remember there is no such thing as a cheap job. I once met someone who said he preffered doing 4 jobs a day at £80 each rather than 8 jobs a day at £40 and his advertising slogan was "Because i'm worth It?". Admittedly he was good at what he did and had a super reputation, so people didn't mind paying his prices.

Get your customers to refer your work. Word of mouth is key...

I know some people think we over inflate prices in this industry but if you ask them if they "work for free" they often take the hint!

Well bees there aint any shortage of plumbers round here is there!!
You cant work for free when u have run a van, pay for gas safe, liability insurance. But to be fair there ain't that much work about so if you risk pricing ur self out if u go too high! Sometimes it just depends on striking up a rapport with customer that must be the only reason u dont get jobs when u put in a perfectly reasonable price!! Basically theres no point bothering for less than 150 a day but when u got to pay bills u got make sure u have something, this country is rubbish.

if your not busy enough to earn what you want then get another income that way you maintain your posture when quoting a price as your not so bothered if you dont get the job.

i always asked the customers "do you want it done cheap or right?" then i would say if you want it done cheap here's my card, you will need it when the cheap guy wont come back to fix it, and if you want it done right i'm your man, i also guarantee that they will get it done cheaper than my price (not sure if its good sales pitch or not, but i decided its my way) but always say when i 'm getting work done i never use the cheapest guy i use the one who will give me a good job, i have honestly never had a problem paying for work to get done as i appreciate i want to earn money and have no issue with someone else earning money
