The two quotes I've had so far are just shy of £2K, looking at online boiler prices without discount, it's looking like close to £1K labour for a days work (both quoted me a day to do). I've 2 more quotes to come, including a British Gas one Just for a laugh).

The new boiler will go back in the same place, the IDEAL can apparently use the same flue vent and the pipework should be the same or close to it. The WB will need brick work done to reposition the flue, and will require some pipework mods. The building regs have changed since the original boiler was installed so the existing flue vent will need a plume to extend it away from a window. Both quotes have included a magnaclean install. the WB is being quoted with 7 year warranty, the IDEAL with 5.

£2K may not be "scary" in the scheme of boiler installations, but for me given that it is a completely un-budgeted, large chunk of change to find, it's pretty scary😱mg_smile:.

I hadn't given much thought to an IDEAL replacement until the second plumber came round with the suggestion. I like the idea given that it can pretty much replace what's there, but was a little put off by some other threads found when googling IDEAL boilers, and the Logic range getting a fair bit of negative like....until I came on here.

thanks

whats your location ?

get a quote off someone on here ?

Logic plus or a vogue. WB = broken fan, failed thermisters, pinholes and ooooh a service kit for annual service.

I honestly wouldn't fit a wb in a skip!

I also get 7 years on the logic. It's a pretty exclusive club I'm led to believe.

There's no way any new boiler, same manufacturer or not, will be able to reuse the flue of your ideal classic.

You say 2k is scary and you're assuming the labour charge is 1k, but you don't mention the particulars of the work involved. Is it being converted to a sealed system? is a magnetic filter included? Is it being flushed etc etc. There are lots of costs you may not have considered, not just the outlay of the boiler.
