Gas rating an oven themostat

When gas rating an oven is there anything one needs to do to stop the phial themostat from modulating down the temperature /flame why I rate it?

Been a while since I’ve done one, but leave the door open?

If you turn it onto max from firing up it should stay on full for at least a couple of minutes to rate it. I usually do that and then when I come back turn it down to check thermostat and bypass are working. However if already hot I can't see why you couldn't leave the door open while rating.
