Talking of condensate pipes...

No need to install flue with correct fall just install a CCD. (condensate capture device)

I defo did a tightness test! And I didn't leave pipes lite that, it takes lots of work to get pipes like that, a highly skilled coppersmith would struggle to re create.

First call this morning. Could see the fumes coming in the window. Flue is an old Worcester one but boiler is only a couple of years old. There is a balcony above as well. IDed it and going back tomorrow to put a new flue and plume kit on.

Hall of shame for the old Ideal Isar...

Blocked condensate, filled back up into burner caused boiler to not ignite but fill with gas then boom. Lucky..

i found one like that when I worked at the council.

No one had ever changed the earth pins and the insulation had fell onto the burner causing the flame to burn through the heat exchanger.

I found it on a service, the boiler had been working fine and the tenant hadn't reported a breakdown or anything.

God knows how long it had been like that for.

dont know if you find the same tom, admittedly its mainly icos i see so not as stressed as a isar, but if its stripped down every year and the ionization probes or pins are checked for condition and correct location they dont need changing obviously different story if there damaged that goes for insulation as well if its cracked new expensive one piece affair required

Had two early 80s oil-fired warm air units in a factory unit 'up north'. When I checked no-one knew if they had ever been serviced since the place was built. Both flues missing caps and one unit heat exchanger rusted through so fumes blowing into the factory, though as they had vehicles in the place nobody noticed. Got other unit working after a fashion but condemned the first. Told them to replace both which they did ...... about 5 years later!

Well cooked, combustion ratio through the roof. Boiler knackered. Bet the Logic don't last as long though.

Ay ideal logics wonderful. Front silencer will be first thing to go and burn out pcb and then out of LCD before combustion pot

Cracked it - the rad is at high level so close to the ceiling that it clearly is not intended to heat the room it is in therefore must be a a form of underfloor heating for the room above & of course with the sensor of the TRV head detecting what is going on above you have temperature control, simples
Just take care you don't kick or trip over it when in the room above.

A lad I know rang me and said he's having trouble fitting his mums taps.

Threads were nackerd on taps. So he isolated the hot and used flexi to cap the cold but had to bend the pipe at the elbow to meet the flexi.

I love DIYers

You know what really grates my cheese about that pic?
The paint!
Why paint pipework that's hidden in a cupboard, there can only be one reason: To annoy plumbers...

And the 78 appliances tapped into the pipe with b n q fixings instead of just having a plumber put a tee in

apparently a mechanical engineer used to own the house

Went and ID'd a boiler for a telephone engineer about a fortnight ago as the inside had melted. Quoted for a new install. He emailed me 2-3 days ago saying he's going to source new parts for his 18 year old heat only and "have a go at getting it working". He asked if I'd fit the parts as part of a service. I politely declined explaining what a service entailed and that half the parts weren't even available anymore but he insisted on"giving it a go himself". Idiot of the highest degree!!

Following on from above post. I was recommended to this guy by his engineer chum who has a combi installed in his loft. I kid you not this bloke has a drip tray or plastic tub under every soldered joint "in case of a leak". Probably being too pedantic I pointed out that if a pressurised joint gave way that the water could go anywhere with pressure. Silly sods probably waterproofed his loft now.

its funny how many customers tell you how much they know about sod all.

those that have been on a multiskilled dole course drive you nuts.

A retired engineer was telling me how his heating worked and said, I've got 3/4 go and returns! I corrected him by saying the correct terminology is " go and come back"
pipe think he believed me.

Old Chinese proverb: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. A little bit more and you realise why.

Actually not Chinese at all, I made it up! I'm in the "little bit more" category.

over flow 1.jpgoverflow 2.jpgoverflow 3.jpg we went to fit a hob before and come across this
its the over flow from the CWSC. another diy job instead of getting a plumber to change the washer in the ball valve. i bet this cost more than getting one.

Also, The brickwork joints are a bit tight and should there be rusty screw on the down pipe. Oh then there is the outside tap with slightly doggy back plate not secured and tap at an unusual angle. how picky can one get?

Why would someone do such a thing!!!! JG on a gas supply!

I don't know where the outlet is but I wouldn't mind knowing how they get their cars parked upright? I don't have much space in my garage and it would be really helpful 😉

That surely not piped up with the pipe running outside the door frame of the meter box??

Yep sure is. Was a bottom entry originally looking at the pipe work but I believe that the meter change to credit required some drastic mods!

Saw this while in traffic today.

hope the plants like condensate!!!

fall pipe straight into a water butt!
