Hi all.

Just after some opinions on this please.

I'm currently working self employed and subbying to a plumbing company and earn £15ph.

I've also been offered a full time job with van, phone, overtime, sick pay, holiday pay etc. However this job is only paying £11ph with the promise of it raising to £13 within 3 months.

I know it comes down to personal circumstances but opinions welcome.

Macka what area are you in? And what sort of work? Heating installs or general plumbing?

£15 an hour? That's dreadful, I get £22.50 an hour + fuel when I'm on day rate subbing for my company.

You need to weigh it up for yourself. If you are doing 40hrs/wk your £15/hr is giving you 28800 at the top if you have 4 weeks off less your van, insurances, tools, phone, petrol, accountant etc
£13/hr will give you 27000 with nothing to pay and an extra week and a half off and overtime will be paid at time and a half.

There are companies offering better money whatever way you do it

The £15 for subbing is a rip off but the £13 per hour all in on the books is about right for the midlands.

Personal choice mate. is there is an option to boost that £13 with overtime / Callout etc?
Thats about what I am on basic but with extras cleared 38 grand last year and to be honest no problems.

5 oclock Friday night and in the pub and no thinking about work untill monday.

You can earn much more on your own but with that comes responsibility and free quotes in your own time, no support if you hit a bugger of a job etc etc.

Tamz put it well based on the maths as he describes it. Your better off on the books but other jobs out there.
Ive jest been offered a job for 29600 starting wage with sse, other benefits on top. Van phone pension and no aggro.

But im still thinking about it, i said yes when they phoned me with the offer havent got joining instructions yet. But i bloody love banging to the beat of my own drum however poor that makes me ll

I think it all depends on firm , I have had couple offers last couple years but they have been small firms. If a big firm came in with good OT etc then food for thought
