Hello people, starting a job on monday subbing for a company doing boiler servicing.I am told I should complete 10 a day,all quite close together,so I take it I will be doing the minimum,I have only ever done servicing the proper way (all checks ,gas rate, clean the burner etc)
what i want to know is what vital checks you would do and what you think is not so important.Ive been thinking about it and im a bit hesitant on cutting out anything, they prob just want tightness, let by, standing, working pressure, quick visual and flue gas anaylser, what do you all think
thanks

I wouldn't want to do that job. "If a job's worth doing it's worth doing properly", is my mantra.

What happens if you forget something or miss something and cause a major injury or worse? Will the company be liable or you?

I'd look after number one first and show your professionalism by telling them it can't be done safely.

All very easy to type, I know but this sounds like a money grabbing scheme to which you would be contributing.

Don't bother, you can't put anything before safety. We all like to make a bit of quick money but there is no way its possible to do 10 good services in a day.

I was doing a service on a back boiler, took the fire out and there was a world of work behind there it was unreal. Ended up being nearly a day by the time I got parts, you just don't know what your going to hit when you remove that cover.

I had a call from a large well know company a few days ago. I was told that all boilers are under 5 years old, all combi condensing, and they are paying £35 a service.

They wanted Flue/gas check, clean out condensate and check burner pressures. That was all they required, in and out as they put it.

to the op
to service a backboiler takes a minimum of 1.5 hours or a hour and half in English with no problems so we move on to combis 105 se hour minimum then he say a worcester greenstar quick fga and gasrate /tightness nah i dont think so do a search on red gaskets 2 hours minimum or you may be lucky and it passes that year at the end of the day you cannot rush gas work installation or servicing if it goes wrong you are the one who go,s down

yea this is what i was thinking, they have said they are all combis no back boilers fires etc, like you say you cant rush gas work, its like the guys who come and service my boiler from the landlord ,all they do is fga and tightness test and they are a big company
I think I will go in on monday,do them properly as i would and see how many i do,they might be next door and may manage 8?,if i cant and they dont want me then fair play

If they are newish combis, especially zero governed HE appliances, 10 in same locality in an 8am to 6pm day is not that difficult if you are just servicing. How have you to deal with any issues? Have you to raise breakdown/repair and walk away?

ballandco, the reason why the landlord safety checks you have done at your place are so quick is because they are not full services, they are literally safety checks that the landlord has to have done every 12 months to fulfil his legal obligations.

A full service is always more of a job. im not sure i agree with l/l safety checks, think they should all be full services, but thats the way it is!!

a HUGE firm i used to work for were like that, wanted you to knock out at least 10 jobs (breakdowns & repairs) per day, you end up rushing otherwise you have office/customers on the phone demanding you get round there asap. As already mentioned, you cannot compromise saftey!!

I think all I have to do is say what is wrong and raise a repair,i am supose to be being told this on monday,do you think its worth having a go then?
