Open access (OA) is a set of principles and a range of practices through which research outputs are distributed online, free of cost or other access barriers. With open access strictly defined (according to the 2001 definition), or libre open access, barriers to copying or reuse are also reduced or removed by applying an open license for copyright. The main focus of the open access movement is "peer reviewed research literature." Historically, this has centered mainly on print-based academic journals. Whereas conventional (non-open access) journals cover publishing costs through access tolls such as subscriptions, site licenses or pay-per-view charges, open-access journals are characterised by funding models which do not require the reader to pay to read the journal's contents or they rely on public funding. Open access can be applied to all forms of published research output, including peer-reviewed and non peer-reviewed academic journal articles, conference papers, theses, book chapters, monographs, research reports and images.Since the revenue of open access journals is earned from publication fees charged from the authors, there are concerns about the quality of articles published in OA journals.
Hey guys.
I have seen a few topics on this forum regarding Access Training. Some of you seemed Skeptical about it. Them offering the NVQ2 without having to do a placement.
I recently started training there (3rd of may) and I must say that I am very impressed with how it is going.
I was...
Was wondering if anyone knows if the bigger companies charge housing associations for tennants not being in at properties when services have been pre booked to suite tennant being available for entry to service appliances.
if i get offered a day of servicing i usually get a list of 8 properties...
I installed a shower room about a year back. Customer complains of smells. I prosume its coming from the shower trap being sucked away. I have run 2 inch from trap to underneath branch for WC. She has a Durgo valve that she beleives is 17 years old. The Valve (against my advice) has been boxed...
hey peeps im looking for a course and access training say you can do your nvq 2 with them without a work placement has anyone done this? Also are there any other providers that supply this qual without geting a work placement. I take it would be a costly figure for the privilage?
Thanks
Tom
I appear to have done something rather stupid, (which isn't unusual).
I have dropped a wood file (probably around 350mm or so) down the soil pipe.
To cut a long story short, I had the vent pipe off and was removing a small section of pipe that protruded too far into the soil pipe (from...
where a gas meter and ecv are in a corner kitchen unit and you need to reach into the corner of the unit to reach them is this classed as restricted access even though you can access the said items via opening the unit door and reaching into the cupboard
what do you think
I have a Zanussi zwf 1621w and when it is finished its wash we get 2 x beeps and some of the water isn't drained.
A check of the manual indicates that the pump may be blocked (2 x beep error code).
The manual says in the bottom right corner of the machine, open the service flap, use the...

Can anyone tell me what the rules are for access to flues, and when these rules came into force?
I saw a flue yesterday which runs horizontally for about 5 metres between the ceiling boards of a ground floor flat and the floor of the flat above. There is no access to this flue except at the...

Hi all, this is my first post.
I've replaced a bath/shower mixer for a friend who lives on the ground floor in a 1930's maisonette. I had to drain down the cold water cistern to do it as the woman who occasionally lives upstairs is a bit strange and after a number of disputes won't let him have...

Hi all,
I'm what you'd call a competent DIYer and I'm looking to replace our existing cast iron soil pipe when refurbishing our bathroom (moving sanitaryware around so I thought I'd do it all at the same time).
I was checking out soil pipe connections in Wickes today and picked up a couple...
Hi we have a toilet unlike any I have seen before. The seat has become loose, with normal toilets I know you just tighten it with the bolts underneath the seat. This one however the toilet / ceramic is sealed with no access to the underside. I have looked at the seat itself and it has no plastic...

Hi - I live in a Victorian conversion ground floor flat, and the bathroom has a concrete floor with an access hatch (that has been unopened for decades as far as I can tell) in the floor. I only found this hatch when I took off the three layers of old vinyl tiles that had been covering the...
