I wouldn't say mugs. Some people really need to pay the bills and feed the family. I've been so desperate in years gone by that I'd work for peanuts just to survive.

I hear yah AP but looking at some of those prices I think you would be making a loss. Fuel, admin, tax, materials etc.

COMISSIONING AND LLGSC £12.50

WOULDNT EVEN ANSWER PHONE FOR THAT...HAD ONE LAST WEEK BOILER SERVICE AND CP12, wanted to pay £35 for the lot..told him to do one, like chewing wasps

The biggest problem is theirs loads of guys who will do it for those prices! Lash it in and run away! Companies who work in this way should be accountable for the mistakes and mess their sub contractors cause.

My thoughts exactly. The buck stops with the small guy at the bottom getting paid peanuts where really the company should get looked at as well.

That is really the only way of stopping the boilers that get thrown in.

My bet would be it's housing association or council work. The money that company's make on these contracts now is peanuts so the prices are always low. But u could still do a grand a week without breaking sweat.

Only if all the houses are next door to each other. Otherwise it would be a struggle

This is why I am trying to move away from any form of contract work its laughable now . When I worked for mears their was a gas contract manager who was promoted from painting decorating !!!
The rates are pants have been for several years now .
What I suggest doing tell them you will do the work but send over your terms conditions the ones with the full set of bells where any form of downtime is charged at pound a minute . Any parking issues is chargeable to them travel time is by the minute plus mileage etc etc.
Reverse the trend I say

Oh come on, nobody powerflushes really do they? Do they?!?...

Not on any contract I've ever seen!! Domestic privately owned yes but contract work no.

I know one bloke doing between 2 and 3 combo swaps a day at £200 each plus extra if they need a gas run

I used to do two. But I'm getting old now and less greedy!

I do a lot of boiler changes and that's pretty much all i do (580 in 5 years) and if someone can change a combi and flush the system, fit condense (these can take an hour or two at times) commission correctly, make good and explain the operation to the customer and be home by lunch I'd love to watch! Not to mention top floor flats issues parking and so on. I do all the above fit scale reducer mini exp vessel and magnaclean, change all rad valves and upgrade controls where needed and that's a good 12-16 hours graft.
