I have a insurance job to try and rescue a poorly installed quad shower the customer wants to save the tiling if possible and has a few spare so fingers crossed it may work , the loss adjuster allowed em £1500 that will just about cover materials. Kop

Service the standard thing it’s been serviced every year 😀

Do kitchen sinks get serviced? 😁

Joking aside, it’s probably a poke and go, a lot of our customers say to me, “it only got serviced last week”, I then proceed to tell them “it’s not a service it’s a safety check” 🙄

Same with the oil boilers, start pulling out the baffles and customer asks what you doing as nobody has done that before.

Well looks like I wont be doing the chapel after all, bloke thinks my price for first fix and boiler/cylinder is too expensive. Put in 13 days all on copper. 4 1/2 days for boiler and cylinder room inc controls wiring. 4 days to first fix the three bathrooms. 1 day for kitchen and cloakroom. 1 day to fill and pressure test. 1/2 day for oil line (not an easy run). 1 day to flush refill and commission boiler and a days feck factor.
Never mind.
Win some you loose some mate 😉

Another bathroom started this week chaps getting the tiling done a new going up ceiling up tomorrow . Kop

Hi Guys, having a 'mare today with a "simple" towel rail job for my uncle. Doing it purely for the love of plumbing for free of course 😵 on my day off.

Old rail a tiny bit rusty so he's bought an new one (Years left in the old one if you ask me!). Exactly the same as the old one he says. Easy job he says. Apart from the new rail is not the same, the spacings between the bars are different and the height is different so the fixings don't line up and even moving just the bottom fixing leaves the pipes either too long or too short no matter what I do. I don't work out of a van any more so what would normally be a fairly easy job is a pain in the arse with drilling tiles and making good and extending pipes, most probably. Because I'm not carrying the right kit in the car for a "simple" "identical" rail swap I've got to go into work tomorrow and get the right kit and drive across the island again on my next day off.

So I'm going back tomorrow to just redo the thing basically from scratch, freeze the pipes and extend them into the new rail about an inch. 😖 Or maybe just move all the fixings.

In reality nothing major in the grand scheme but still a PITA! Ahh that's better getting that off my chest.

Oh I forgot, he does pay me - In old (still good nick though) clothes of his which would be great if he wasn't about 5 stone heavier than me. 😂

Same with the oil boilers, start pulling out the baffles and customer asks what you doing as nobody has done that before.

Now that's a familiar one! When I used to work regularly with oil, I've lost count of the amount of times someone has complained because "Why is it taking you so long? The last guy was always in and out in 20 minutes?" I've even had one or two ask me if I'm sure I know what I'm doing!

The firm I worked for charged £100 to do a proper service, oil filter cartridge, new burner hoses where needed and I played that better safe than sorry, full clean out of the combustion chamber, baffles and secondary heat exchanger turbulator jobbies cleaned, fire valve test, burner set up properly again, new nozzle if needed, flue gas analysis, photocell test, and proper paperwork. Used to take me about an hour or a bit longer if the boiler was filthy which it usually was.

They'd complain that the last bloke did it for £80 and only took 20 minutes. I tried to explain that they were paying him £80 to not have their boiler serviced and paying us £100 to have the full works. Some people then understood but others thought I was taking the p*ss.

I don't miss that rubbish any more that's for sure.

I have had an eventful day. Spent all day chasing a blockage on the hot water side of the system. Vaillant conventional and ancient 200 litres copper cylinder with 4 draw offs. Cold flow also poor upstairs. Changed 2 swing valves that I thought had seized. 1 was seized the other only partially open. Refilled, still the same issue. Customer comes home and I say has it always been like this, he say no, normally pressure good. I say your pipework is all over the place and there is a lot of up
And down runs. You should have a power pump on your system really. (Can anyone guess what he said then?)

When the forum changed, I think he just changed credentials to @centralheatking? (Was always signing off as that anyway, or setting stuff on fire 😂)

Yep, don't know what a service is? Set it on fire and see what happens. He actually basically said that. One of my favourite posts of all time that. Someone found a black pipe in their garden and didn't know what it was and he was just like "Set fire to it" 😂

Where is he though?

Where is he though?

I don’t know, according to the info on here, he was last seen June 20th? (This year) as ch king.

I think I possibly remember the post.

I like the fact that despite his suggestion being a bit extreme, it would also have actually worked!

Pour some petrol on it and set fire to it (I think those were the exact words LOL!)

If it melts and reveals cable or starts arcing, electricity.
If it melts, goes PFFT sprays water everywhere and self extinguishes, water.
If it melts and continues to burn slowly but surely with an ever increasing fire area, oil.
If it melts and shoots a jet of lovely flames, gas.
If nothing much happen the service is disused and you can proceed to ignore or remove it.

Hey KOP, I had exactly the same about 18 mths ago (I think I posted about it on here). The MI's drove me mental, I emailed them and offered to rewrite the install instructions the weren't in the least interested, even snobby! The amount of time I spent pffaffing around with it adjusting, to ensure no trickle from the magnetic seal.... I should have charged another £1000... for all the stress, hassle and downtime. 🤪

P.S. Agree absolutely "Never ever will I fit a crosswater frameless single pivot door quad again" neither will I until they agree to pay me to re-write the installers instructions.
