gravity fed system
Gravity feed is the use of earth's gravity to move something (usually a liquid) from one place to another. It is a simple means of moving a liquid without the use of a pump. A common application is the supply of fuel to an internal combustion engine by placing the fuel tank above the engine, e.g. in motorcycles, lawn mowers, etc. A non-liquid application is the carton flow shelving system.
Ancient Roman aqueducts were gravity-fed, as water supply systems to remote villages in developing countries often are. In this case the flow of water to the village is provided by the hydraulic head, the vertical distance from the intake at the source to the outflow in the village, on which gravity acts; while it is opposed by the friction in the pipe which is determined primarily by the length and diameter of the pipe as well as by its age and the material of which it is made.

The system : S plan with the hot water cylinder in the loft and the F&E tank about two feet (max) above the cylinder. The cold feed from the F&E tank and the cylinder flow/return disappear into the eaves of the roof (inaccessible), run down some boxwork in the first floor hall and then...

Hi all, just viewed a proposed boiler install heat only direct swap. The system is gravity fed but has no open vent? So I presume the water expands back into the cistern. Is this common?
i am on a job where the radiators down stairs are heating good but the 3 upstairs rads have no heat whatsoever, the boiler is outside at back door of house and is working perfectly, pump sounds great and set at 3, radiators are full of water upstairs yet no heat apart from at one which has tiny...

Hi all,
Is it possible (has anyone tried) to combine a gravity fed system (tank in attic) together with the mains.
Basically by passing the tank though putting a non return valve on the outlet of the tank.
This I hope will add the pressure of water up to the mains pressure without need...

Hi,
Does anyone know if using a pressure reducing valve for an unbalanced system will work.
It's for a mixer shower that has been fitted. It's a gravity fed system so the hot comes from the water cyclinder but the problem is - the cold is connected directly to the rising main. This prevents...
