terminal
A computer terminal is an electronic or electromechanical hardware device that can be used for entering data into, and transcribing data from, a computer or a computing system. The teletype was an example of an early day hardcopy terminal, and predated the use of a computer screen by decades.
Early terminals were inexpensive devices but very slow compared to punched cards or paper tape for input, but as the technology improved and video displays were introduced, terminals pushed these older forms of interaction from the industry. A related development was timesharing systems, which evolved in parallel and made up for any inefficiencies of the user's typing ability with the ability to support multiple users on the same machine, each at their own terminal/terminals.
The function of a terminal is typically confined to transcription and input of data; a device with significant local programmable data processing capability may be called a "smart terminal" or fat client. A terminal that depends on the host computer for its processing power is called a "Dumb terminal" or a thin client. A personal computer can run terminal emulator software that replicates functions of a real-world terminal, sometimes allowing concurrent use of local programs and access to a distant terminal host system, either over a direct serial connection or over a network using, e.g, SSH.
Hi there!
I'm studying on my gas engineer course at the moment and I'm immersing myself into the world of Flues. Looking at the distance tables I can't see anything about how far away a flue terminal has to be from a chimney that's connected to an open fire. Is the chimney just generally...
I know its a bit of a long shot but does anyone have a low level discharge terminal for a 100mm round flue pipe? The builders have damaged one and I can't seem to find anywhere to buy a replacement other than buying an entire flue kit!
hi
i've just picked up a decorative fuel effect hole in the wall gas fire. i've got a brick built chimney which this fire is ok with. i'm obviously going to get a gas safe guy to fit it, but i'm just trying to get an idea of what i'm in for.

Hello all,
I'm just in the middle of my ACS gas course. For some reason, i now have the habit of looking at flue terminals outside houses.... If a flue is less than 300mm from a window opening, would that mean the gas engineer has to disconnect the boiler and if customer does not give...
I am replacing the above boiler in a 8 storey high apt block.
I want to keep the existing vertical terminal in situ as I cant get on the roof to replace it ( otherwise I would replace the terminal also)

The new worcester flue is 100 mm /...
Hi guys
With an open flue the minimum distance for a vertical flue terminal through a roof is 1500mm from the apex (or 600mm above ridge).
I have my chimney standards book here but it doesn't show the same restriction for a Room sealed terminal. So wondering if any of you can advise if these...

Hi all. I've been asked to fit a stat to the above boiler. I have had a look at the manual as I'm scheduled to fit a CM927 tomorrow. The existing boiler has a integral timer. (With the pins). I want to bypass this and fit the Honeywell stat. Anyone done this, as it looks a bit complicated after...
I have a job where the flue has come away from the ridge vent. the bolts look like they have rusted and broken off.
Does anyone know if you can replace the bolts or is it going to mean a new terminal?
Bought one of these a couple of weeks ago as I had a lad installing the god forsaken Alpha Intec 24x boiler (client wanted cheap and that's simply what we came up with). We've pretty much vowed to go back to using Vaillant (cheap option: Ideal). Although if you actually enjoy installing these...
I have a CDi24 Worcester Combi Boiler using Natural Gas. I am quite sure it is the CDi24 RSF model.

Quick question: I had a bloke out a few days ago to do a gas safety inspection, prior to me moving house. After leaving him to it, he came in to say the vertical flue had failed, because the top cap was missing. He said it had likely corroded, and gotten blown away, and that I would need a whole...
Hi y'all , I need a bit of advice. Does anybody know if you can get/fit a plume kit on a 8 yr old Biasi m90f 24s (non conden). Just been to a call out for one and noticed horizontal flue way too close to opening window & internal corner. I'm 99.9% thinking new vertical kit with roof tile etc...
Hey fellers good morning to you. I have just awakened and am having tea in bed while reading installer magazine and I have come to page 50 which is all about positions. I don't know if any of you get the magazine or not but I am a bit confused as to what it is saying about flue terminals for fan...
I've come across a couple of instances in External Wall Insulation where the operatives believe that it is OK for a boiler flue terminal to be removed from the wall but allowing the boiler to continue working whilst they install external wall insulation onto a building, but they leave a space of...
