terminal
A computer terminal is an electronic or electromechanical hardware device that can be used for entering data into, and transcribing data from, a computer or a computing system. The teletype was an example of an early day hardcopy terminal, and predated the use of a computer screen by decades.
Early terminals were inexpensive devices but very slow compared to punched cards or paper tape for input, but as the technology improved and video displays were introduced, terminals pushed these older forms of interaction from the industry. A related development was timesharing systems, which evolved in parallel and made up for any inefficiencies of the user's typing ability with the ability to support multiple users on the same machine, each at their own terminal/terminals.
The function of a terminal is typically confined to transcription and input of data; a device with significant local programmable data processing capability may be called a "smart terminal" or fat client. A terminal that depends on the host computer for its processing power is called a "Dumb terminal" or a thin client. A personal computer can run terminal emulator software that replicates functions of a real-world terminal, sometimes allowing concurrent use of local programs and access to a distant terminal host system, either over a direct serial connection or over a network using, e.g, SSH.
Hi, I have a question relating to Vertical Flue Terminal for a Sanvoir Duval Boiler (Thermal Classic F30e).
I am intending on renting out my house and just had a gas certificate undertaken which has advised me that the end of the vertical flue is missing. After doing some research I have found...
Hi
We all know terminal must be 300mm from an opening window - but am I dreaming or has the rule changed now for distance from non opening windows? Seem to remember seeing somewhere that it now based on distance from a change in structure eg from edge of where brick changes to window frame...
have a worcester heatslave and want a frost stat and pipe stat fitting. The manual shows 2 x single pole frost stats, but this diagram refers to a heated romm not an unheated situation, therefore a pipe stat is required to shut the heating off once heat rise is detected. From the terminal block...

Anyone know the minimum clearance (from ground) for the air inlet on a Vaillant Variable Termination Kit. Read the manual back to front can`t find anything!!!
I recently needed a flue terminal deflector for a Baxi Duotec GA, I asked Plumbcenter for a trade price and was quoted £32 +vat. I told them where to poke it. 2 minutes of googling and I foud and purchased one on Amazon for £9.44 including vat and delivery. It arrived within 3 days and was in a...
Hi guys,
Am I right in saying that if a terminal is placed in a restricted area (i.e. within the min distance to an object or structure) then on a Vaillant, you can use the VTK to move the internal outlet pipe of the flue to a safe distance, thus making the previous terminal place an Air Inlet...
I fitted a remeha avanta 28c (there new combi think its an avanta plus but not 100 percent)
anyway, I fitted a mechanical timeclock which was easy enough, just goes to terinal x2 on pcb, all wires labeled so you cant get it wrong.
From what I made out you needed l, n, e from fused spur to...
I have a problem on a site where the flue on a HRM Wallster is too close to an extract vent.
In the gas industry the distance for this should be 300mm but if it is too close the problem can be overcome by using an open and shut extract terminal.
With oil this distance is 600mm and oftec will not...
any ideas on what a room sealed boiler that has no terminal fitted onto a vertical flue would be classified as.. came across one and the inner metal pipe had corroded a bit which connected onto to the terminal and caused it to come off the flue. i disconnected the boiler as I concluded it would...
hello im trying to figure out how to wire a condensate pump to the boiler. the pump comes with a standard live, neutral and earth and two wires that cut the boiler supply if pump overflows/blocks.
now as i understand it i connect one of the 2 black wires to the permanent live terminal on the...
Hello,
On changing a float valve in a roof space today i spotted this, the boiler is a Ideal Icos approx 3/4 year old.
The balanced flue from the boiler joins onto the old ridge terminal for exhaust, and the air intake terminates in the roofspace with the fitting shown.
I phoned Ideal and...

Hi Guys I need some help here.
I have been told by worcester engineer that my flue is unsafe because the vertical flue has no 'cap thing' on top to protect things going down it. COWL I think its called.
As far as I know it has been that way now for the last 10 years or so but now they say its...
New to this forum, so hope it's the right place to ask my question!
Have just replaced a Danfoss FP 715 controller, with dodgy buttons, for an updated FP715 Si.
On inspecting the wall plate on the original, one of the securing screw lugs was missing, so decided to go with installing a...
